What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment?
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT or HBO) is a non-invasive method that consists of supplying oxygen at high concentrations in a pressurized hyperbaric chamber at a minimum of 1.4 atmospheres ATM (higher than normal ambient atmospheric pressure,
which is 1 atmosphere). Thus, the person is breathing 100% oxygen. This gas is transported to the blood, and manages to reach even the damaged tissues.
What are the types of Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers?
In general, two types of chambers are used in hyperbaric oxygen therapy:
● A single-place chamber: This compartment can fit just one person. In an individual unit, you lie down on a table that slides into a clear plastic chamber in order to receive the treatment.
● Multiplace chamber: There can be two or more people in this chamber at once.
Most of the treatment is the same. People now breathe pure oxygen through masks or hoods, which is the difference. You might receive the procedure while being accompanied by a technician in the chamber.
How often should you do hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
In order to assist you and have the best results for your treatment, a medical professional will determine the frequency and length of your sessions; thus they may vary. However, currently there is a consensus among specialists that they last from 60 to 90 minutes, in hyperbaric chambers of less than 1.3 ATA with a frequency between 2 to 6 times per week.
It is important to note that one session does not act as a remedy, in the sense that it has a certain half-life. Therefore the more sessions, the better results.
MTC Casa Pance, in joint with our local healthcare facilities, offers a single-place rigid chamber in which you will be able to receive a proper and efficient treatment under the care of the professional medical team who will monitor you and the therapy unit throughout your sessions.
