Digestive system and quality of life
Digestive system and quality of life. The digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal tract—also called the GI tract or digestive tract—and the liver, pancreas and gallbladder. The Gastric system is a series of hollow organs joined in a long, twisting tube from the mouth to the anus. The hollow organs that make up the GI tract are the mouth, esophagus stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. The liver, pancreas, and gallbladder are the solid organs of the digestive system as well.
The digestive system is important in the way it that turns the food into the nutrients and energy in order for humans to survive. The digestive system also handles the solid waste, or stool, for disposal when the body has a bowel movement.
Why is digestion important?
Digestion is important because your body needs nutrients from the food you eat and the liquids you drink in order to stay healthy and function properly. Nutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. Your digestive system breaks down and absorbs nutrients from the food and liquids you consume to use for important things like energy, growth and repairing cells.
Why does digestion helps you have a good quality of life?
The digestive system plays a major role in our overall health as it brings nutrients to our body. Without good digestive health, patients will experience a host of uncomfortable symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, and more.
In order to keep our digestive system in check we should:
Drink Plenty of Water
The digestive system needs to be well-hydrated to function well.
Make sure to drink enough water according to your weight and physical activity level. Without good hydration, you may suffer from constipation, dehydration, and a host of unwanted symptoms. For good digestive health, make sure to drink enough water every day. (At least 8 cups of water a day).
Eat Fresh Vegetables and Fruits
Eating fresh vegetables and fruits is a great way to get the nutrients and natural enzymes that can aid overall digestive health and function. A balanced diet full of healthy fruits and vegetables can help improve the way the digestive system works. It is best to eat them fresh and uncooked whenever possible.
Avoid Artificial Sweeteners and Processed Foods
Avoid eating chemical-laden and processed foods and start eating natural foods. Chemical food additives, artificial sweeteners, and food preservatives can interfere and affect the digestive process.
